Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or location entered in a search tool is transmitted directly to the third-party company operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies the response; we do not retain or record those search terms on our systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

We retain an email sent to us for the purpose of responding. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Our servers automatically receive certain technical information whenever a page loads:

  • Page-view dates and times
  • Pages viewed and the time spent on them
  • Device type and operating system
  • Browser name and version
  • The referring website, when available
  • The device's IP address

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device. We use them with analytics services to understand aggregate traffic, including popular pages and where visits end. A browser can block cookies, although doing so may change how some site features work.

What We Do With This Data

  • Diagnosing and repairing technical problems
  • Maintaining site availability and performance
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
  • Measuring which pages are useful or need improvement

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Franklin County Criminal History does not maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions for requesting records from the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, Franklin Circuit Court Clerk, Kentucky State Police Criminal Identification and Records Branch, and Kentucky State Police Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor information is not compiled into consumer reports or third-party records.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies power the search boxes on this website. Their privacy policies, retention rules, and sharing practices govern information submitted through those tools, and we do not control those practices. Review the applicable partner policy before running a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, Kentucky Court of Justice portals, state agencies, legal-aid organizations, or commercial search providers. Once a visitor leaves this website, the destination's privacy policy controls. Review it before providing personal information.

Advertising companies may use their own systems to follow activity across websites and select targeted advertisements.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal information. Data may nevertheless be received by:

  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
  • Advertising networks that place ads on the website
  • Search providers processing a query

How We Protect Your Data

We use standard security measures to protect collected data. No internet-connected system can be guaranteed completely secure, however, so we cannot promise that a breach will never occur.

Users Under 18

The website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor provided such data, we will delete it promptly.

Your Data Rights

Rights may vary with the law that applies where a visitor lives. In Kentucky, the Kentucky Open Records Act, KRS 61.870-61.884, governs access to qualifying government records, while KRS Chapter 17 addresses criminal-history dissemination. Those laws concern official records and do not turn this private site into a government custodian. With respect to data we hold, you may:

  • Opt out of certain forms of processing
  • Request deletion of your information
  • Ask that inaccurate data be corrected
  • Request a copy of information we retain about you

Updates to This Policy

We may revise this policy. Any revision will be posted here with a replacement effective date, so visitors should review this page periodically for changes.
